Internationally awarded jade carver, Shane Zach, is well known for his superior knowledge of jadeite jade and nephrite jade, and for working with jade from diverse origins including Indonesia, New Zealand, Big Sur, Yukon, China, Siberia, and many more.
Beginning his journey as a bone and jade carver in 2012, Shane has grown the Freshwater Jade brand into one recognized for exceptional artistry and craftsmanship. He is also known for carving jade with unusual characteristics, including rare inclusions and pseudomorphs.
Shane has earned medals at the Georg Schmerholz Jade Carving Exhibition in California and the Zi Gang Bei Chinese jade carving competition in Suzhou. He has visited many locales that produce jade including New Zealand, China, Indonesia, and British Columbia.
Drawing inspiration from nature, his carvings range from finely observed animals like the rhinoceros beetle to dragons and semi-fantastical creatures that have a foothold in our world, but feature an imaginative twist that only an artist’s mind can conjure.
